04/03/10...
Details of the one-off
Thursday Division 2 Cup have now been confirmed. Due to the withdrawal of Rileys L&G from Thursday League Division 2 and the subsequent amended fixture list resulted in the Division 2 season finishing 5 weeks early, an extra cup was set up for Division 2 sides at the end of the season. Teams have been split into two groups for round one. Scoring system in the groups will be the same as league matches (a point for each frame and point for winning the match). One round of fixtures only (see fixtures list).

04/03/10...The
Tuesday Cup final will be between Trecenydd and Fairwater after they won their respective semi-finals against Mackintosh and Savoy this week. Trecenydd are looking to retain the trophy they won last year. Elsewhere, County beat Penarth BL 3-1 to set up a Plate Final against the University.

27/02/10...It's looking likely that Tuesday teams will move to Thursday nights next season. This is being discussed in a
lively debate on the league forum. Please sign in and have your say about the league structure. If you aren't a member then it's free and easy to register.

27/02/10...
Taffs Well had their
Thursday League lead reduced to a single point this week as Cathays Cons took all 5 frames against Penylan Club. Taffs Well managed a 3-2 win over Gower A. Still within striking distance are Aber & Senghenydd, who took a 3-2 win off Canton A, and South Wales Snooker, who were beaten 3-2 by reigning champions Canton C. One quarter of the season to go (7 matches), and just 5 points separate the top 4.

With just 2 weeks left in
Thursday 2, Potters Bar gained a crucial advantage this week, beating Gower B 3-2 whilst Wellington lost 4-1 against Rumney BL to lie 3 points adrift. They need to avoid being outscored by 3 points or more next week by Potters Bar to take the title race down to the last week. Roath Labour had their promotion chances hit by Trecenydd B, who beat them 3-2.

26/02/10...
A reminder that the first set of matches for the singles and doubles must be played by midnight on Sunday. Comp results are being added to the website all the time. Congratulations to Neil Tomkins who made a 112 break in the Cardiff Open in his first round match.

26/02/10...This week's big game changed the leaders of the
Tuesday league after County beat title rivals Mackintosh for the second time in a row. County may rue the fact they didn't kick on from their 3-0 lead, and lost the final two frames. A word also for Spencer Symmons, whose remarkable unbeaten record (bar a defeat against Penarth Rd) has now come to an end after losing to Kevin Brown (for the second time in 3 weeks in all competitions.....).

26/02/10...Apologies for the belated update. Last week in the
Thursday league leaders Taffs Well won 3-2, beating Penylan Club 3-2. But 3 teams lie just 3 points adrift of the leaders, Aber & Senghenydd occupying 2nd place having won more matches. Potters Bar now lead Thursday 2 on matches won after a 4-1 win over Uni B in a rearranged game, and a 5-0 win over Rumney BL.

18/02/09...Savoy drop one place in the
Tuesday League, having walked into the stuffing that many have expected to come at some point from Penarth BL. Wayne Hatton's 49 was a fine effort against Mark Bennett, but was topped by a 55 by Neil Tomkins, and a 52 that followed soon after. No massive breaks at Trecenydd, just a not-so-rapid turnaraound that saw County put at least some pressure on Mackintosh, with a 3-2 win from 0-2 down. University may have put the final nail in Fairwater's hopes of winning the title again, but they will chase a second place trophy hard, while Uni now have moved above Savoy in the table.

11/02/09...
A reminder that the opening rounds of this year's competitions must be played by the end of February. Results are coming in and are being added to the website when possible. The handicaps for Layton Brooks (singles) and Brooks/Carpenter (doubles) have been amended

11/02/09...
The Mackintosh took advantage of a severely weakened Trec side to record a rare whitewash win in this year's
Tuesday division, and extended their lead over the two other title contenders. Spencer Symmons has yet to lose a league frame still and leads the player rankings comfortably. Fairwater, who had a superb win last week, slipped up against Savoy, while County put themselves back into second spot with a fine win over Penarth RBL, a side who have every right to think they are better than their results show. An honorable mention also for Kishan Hirani who followed a fine 40+ break last week with an 81 at Savoy, the highest of the season in the Tuesday League to date.

07/02/10...This week saw the first round of the
Thursday Knockout Cup take place. Results and the draw for the quarter-finals can now be found here.

01/02/10...
Details for this year's Cardiff and District Snooker League Singles and Doubles Tournaments are now available. They follow the old monthly format where players have to arrange their own matches. There are four competitions being played this year:
Cardiff Open, Cardiff Open Pairs, Cardiff Handicap, Cardiff Handicap Pairs. A full drawsheet can be downloaded here with contact details for each player or pairing.

Results
must be texted to Spencer Symmons on 07717 173362 or emailed to Spencer at
cardiffdsl@googlemail.com before the 29th of each month. Please also email any breaks made. Appeals: If matches are not completed within the month an Appeal can be made by players who have made efforts to arrange matches without their opponent responding. Appeals must be made via email only to cardiffdsl@googlemail.com with as much information as possible on attempts made to arrange the match. In the event of both players appealing and the comp secretary being unable to decide who to put through both players will be scratched from the tournament.

Full details on competition rules available
here.

01/02/10...Taffs Well
remain top of
Thursday 1 this week after a 3-2 win over Canton C. Cathays Cons remain 3 points adrift after beating Gower A by the same scoreline. South Wales Snooker also registered a 3-2 win, against Canton A, as did Aber & Senghennydd, who beat Penylan Club.

Wellington extended their lead by a point in
Thursday 2 after beating University B 4-1. Roath Labour in second beat Rumney BL 3-2, whilst Potters Bar saw off Canton B by the same score. In the clash of the basement sides, Trecenydd B edged out Gower B 3-2.

28/01/10...University
had the surprise result of the week in the
Tuesday League, taking two close and reasonably high quality black ball frames to sting the leaders and win 3-2 at County. It meant Mack moved level on points with the leaders, trailing only on alphabetical order, after a 3-2 win over Fairwater. Meanwhile, Trec fielded the side no-one wants to see on the team sheet against them, and thumped Penarth BL, who may not now be able to save themselves from a wooden spoon at the season's end.

24/01/2010...The handicaps for the
Thursday Knockout Cup, which begins next week, have now been confirmed.

23/01/2010...DON'T FORGET THAT ENTRIES TO THE SINGLES AND DOUBLES COMPS MUST BE WITH SPENCER BY TUESDAY 26th!!

23/01/2010...Mackintosh
, who could have led the
Tuesday league at the midway point, became the closest challengers to County, thanks to a fine win over University, without perhaps fielding their strongest team. Fairwater's intial momentum seems to have waned, and they are no longer the favourites to keep the title they won at the first attempt last year. Trecenndd reminded teams that no-one finds it easy on a visit to the Valleys, and suggested that they could at least have a large say in who can win the league, even if nineteen points is probably too much to make up to win it trtook the longest winning streak of the season. A longer list of player rankings is now available here.

18/01/2010...
A reminder that you have just a week left to get in your entries to the
09/10 CDSA singles and doubles competitions. We have 4 competitions which are the Handicap Singles and Doubles (each player given handicap depending on ability) and the Cardiff Open Singles and Doubles which are scratch tournaments. The deadline for entering all tournments is Midnight on the 26th January 2010 with the draws being made at the Mackintosh that night. Forms have been posted to all clubs or you can download copies here, and entry fees can be posted to Spencer Symmons at 10 Maes Brith Y Garn, Cardiff. CF23 8QE or alternatively Spencer will be available at the Mackintosh on January 5th, 19th and 26th from 7pm to 11pm to accept handed-in forms and fees. All the tournaments will start from the 1st February with first round matches to have been completed by the 29th of each month and results texted or called through to Spencer Symmons on 07717 173362. Full information on the competitions is here now and will be updated through the season.

17/01/10...Taffs Well took over as
Thursday Division One leaders this week, beating South Wales Snooker 3-2. They head the table by just two points from Cathays Cons, who have 1 game in hand, and whose match this week fell victim to the weather. Penylan Club edged a close encounter with Canton C, taking a 3-2 victory, whilst basement side Gower A picked up their second win in a row, beating Canton A 3-2. In Thursday Division Two, Wellington extended their lead by a point this week, beating Gower B 4-1 as Roath Labour beat Canton B 3-2. Potters Bar had another cancellation due to the weather, leaving them 9 points off the lead, but with 2 games in hand. Rumney BL were the other winners this week, beating University B 3-2.

17/01/10...All three matches in the Tuesday League were postponed due to the snow - when was the last time a full programme of snooker was wiped out due to bad weather? The match sec has made the decision under this exceptional circumstance to move all these fixtures to an extra week at the end of the season, so no need to rearrange now.
